Overview

All of the application materials for the Psychology Graduate programs will be through Cal State Apply.

The specific application requirements for each program are described below.

All materials must be submitted online no later than February 1, 2023 for all three programs.

The GRE (Graduate Record Exam) is not required for application to any of our graduate programs.

This seven-minute video describes the process of applying to the General Experimental Program.

At Cal State Apply, students will be required to

  1. Fill out the online application for the University.
  2. Provide Personal Information
  3. Provide Academic History
  4. Provide Supporting Information
  5. Pay the processing fee ($70)
  6. Add Program, locate and check (√) the General Experimental Psychology Program
  7. Provide all the Program Materials, which include these three tabs:
    1. Overall GPA, GPA for the last 90 units, GPA for your major
    2. Identify the courses that you have taken in Psychology. These courses are not required for applications but are recommended.
    3. Pick three faculty members that you would like to serve as your mentor. To find out research interests of faculty, go to the Research page.
    4. Rank the order of the three faculty members with regards to your preference.
    5. Read and agree to the Application Acknowledgments

      2. Statement of Purpose
      3. Unofficial Transcripts
      4. Additional Unofficial Transcripts

      Choose three people to write and submit a letter of recommendation for application. These are often from academic research advisors or instructors, but they can also come from other people that know your character and capabilities.

      Fill out a separate request form for each recommender, and they will receive an email request.

      7. Provide all the Program Materials, which include these three tabs:

        • Identify the courses that you have taken in Psychology. These courses are not required for applications but are recommended.
        • Pick three faculty members that you would like to serve as your mentor. To find out research interests of faculty, go to the Research page.

Statement of Purpose: “Identify your professional goals; present your vision of yourself as a psychology professional in our increasingly diverse society, and address why you will be “good” for the profession.” “Identify your professional goals; (1) present your vision of yourself as a school psychologistbehavior analyst in our increasingly diverse society, and (2) address why you will be a good for the professionfield and the program.

      10. Statement of Purpose -
        • ” What do you understand to be the roles of a school psychologist? Why do you want to be a school psychologist? Present your vision of yourself as a school psychologist in our increasingly diverse society.” Please limit your response to 1300 words or two-three pages single spaced.

      Please remember the Psychology Department deadline for all three of our graduate programs is February 1, 2022

      Supporting Materials Sent Directly to the University

      The following materials are required by the University:

      • Official transcripts (sealed and ordered from previously attended colleges)

      You do not have to send any portion of the Psychology graduate application to the University graduate admissions office. You only have to send your official transcript.

      These documents must be mailed to the appropriate admissions office (see Domestic or International Students).

      Electronic- transcripts sent electronically or as a PDF attachment MUST come directly from the issuing institution. Transcripts emailed by the applicant will not be accepted for admission review.
